Box Score Alpine, Texas - The Trinity Tigers opened a
three-game series with a 16-10 non-conference victory over the Sul
Ross Lobos Friday night at Kokernot Field.
Trinity, which won its fifth straight game, improved to 6-1. Sul
Ross dropped to 2-3. The two teams will play again Saturday at 2
p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tiger senior catcher Kyle Felix (Woodside, Calif./Bellarmine
College Prep) swatted two home runs in the game, bringing his
season total to four. Felix cracked a two-run homer in the first
inning, and then hit a solo shot in the eighth. He batted 5-5 with
five RBI, scored four runs, and hit two doubles.
Senior outfielder Kevin Calbick (Burnaby British, Columbia/Burnaby
South) hit his first round-tripper of the season, in the sixth
inning. Calbick went 5-7 with four RBI, scored five runs, and hit
two doubles.
Junior outfielder Nick Pappas (Los Angeles/Loyola) also
craccked his first homer of the campaign, with one on in the
second. Pappas batted 1-2 with three RBI, and scored a
run.
The Tigers got on the board first, with four runs at the beginning
of the game. Sul Ross countered with three runs in the bottom half
of the first inning. But Trinity scored four runs in the second,
three in the third, and three in fourth inning, to lead 14-6. A
Tiger run in each of the sixth and eighth innings put Trinity up
16-9.
Trinity sophomore left-hander Ryan Lucero (Aurora, Colo./Grandview)
pitched 1 1/3 innings and took the win. Lucero (2-1) allowed three
hits, four earned runs, four walks, and struck out three batters.
First-year right-hander Matthew Tindall (Houston/Lamar) pitched the
final inning and garnered the save. Tindall yielded one hit, one
earned run, and two walks.
The Tigers scored 15 earned runs, blasted 19 hits, and did not
commit an error. Sul Ross produced 10 earned runs, picked up 15
hits, and made one error.
