Baseball Sweeps SCAC Doubleheader From Hendrix

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger baseball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon, winning 10-2 and 8-5.

Trinity (10-1, 4-0) has won nine consecutive games, dating back to the opening weekend of the season when the Tigers fell to Birmingham Southern in a non-conference matchup.

The opening game was scheduled for seven innings, and Ben Klimesh went the distance to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Klimesh gave up just one earned run - two runs total - on four hits, and struck out six batters.

The Tiger offense gave Klimesh the early lead with a three-run first inning that featured four straight hits.  After Hendrix scored single runs in the second and third, Trinity's bats went back to work with seven runs over the final three innings.

Kyle Felix and Nick Pappas had three hits and three runs each to lead the Tigers.  Felix cracked three doubles in the game, while Pappas had two doubles and drove in a game-best four runs.

With his three hits in the first game, Felix became just the seventh player to reach 200 career hits for the Tigers.  He is now 20 hits from cracking the top five all-time.  His three doubles also ties him for the second-most in a career (Evan Jones, 2007-10).  Felix needs six more to break the record set by Kenneth Sharp from 2000-03.

Game two started off a little differently, as Hendrix answered Trinity's run in the second with two runs in the third to take its first lead of the day.  The Tigers promptly erased that lead with a five-run inning to take control of the game.

Ryan Lucero (2-1) earned the win, scattering 11 hits over 5.1 innings, and giving up just three earned runs.  Noah Solomon earned his first save of the year by giving up just one unearned run on two hits in the final 3.2 innings.

Dominick Robusto was 2-3 with two runs and two RBI in the second game, smashing two doubles for the Tigers.  Pappas had two more hits and two runs in the second game, including his third home run of the 2011 campaign.

Jonathan Hall also had a pair of hits, as well as collecting four RBI that were highlighted by a three-run double in the third inning.  Christian Muscarello and Kevin Jackson also had two hits each, while Muscarello added two runs.

Trinity will conclude the weekend SCAC series with Hendrix tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.  The Tigers will also play on Tuesday evening at the Trinity Baseball Field, hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:00 p.m.
