Box Score San Antonio -- The Trinity Tigers baseball team wrapped up its
Houston Wheeler Memorial Tournament with a 10-2 victory Sunday
afternoon at the Trinity Baseball Field.
Trinity (2-1) beat Schreiner 9-8 on Saturday, and then lost 10-9 to
Birmingham-Southern to start the season.
Sunday's game was highlighted by Tiger junior right-handed
pitcher Ben Klimesh (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) who did not allow a
hit until the sixth inning. Klimesh (1-0), who hurled seven
innings, allowed one earned run, three hits, seven walks, and
fanned 10 Panther players.
Senior right-hander Michael Panozzo (Houston/Clear Lake) took over
for the final two innings and gave up only two hits.
Trinity jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first two
innings, and the game was never in doubt. The Tigers added six runs
in the last three innings of the match-up.
Sophomore first baseman Jonathan Hall (Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier)
smacked a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Hall batted 4-4 (one
walk) with four RBI, and scored two runs.
First-year second baseman Christian Muscarello (Tucson,
Ariz./Catalina Foothills) swatted two doubles and a triple in the
game. Muscarello batted 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Another Tiger newcomer, shortstop Nicholas Iacovella (Tampa,
Fla./Jesuit), hit 3-5 with two RBI, a double and scored a run.
Senior catcher Kyle Felix (Woodside, Calif./Bellarmine College
Prep) went 2-5 with two RBI and a double.
Birmingham-Southern catcher Bruce Maxwell and third baseman Brandon
Perry each had an RBI in the game. The Panthers scored a run in the
fourth and seven innings.
Trinity scored nine earned runs, blasted 15 hits, committed three
errors, and left 10 players on base. Birmingham-Southern scored one
earned run, accounted for five hits, made one error, and stranded
11 players.
The SCAC champion Tigers host Austin College for a two-game series
next Saturday and Sunday, with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
each day.
