Box Score San Antonio - The 10th-ranked Trinity Tigers
swept a two-game series with the DeSales Bulldogs by an 8-4 win
Thursday night at the Trinity Baseball Field.
Trinity, which beat DeSales 12-4 Wednesday night, improved its
record to 17-2. The Bulldogs now stand at 3-3.
The Tigers scored seven runs in the first two innings, with four
coming in the opening stanza, and three in the second.
Senior catcher Kyle Felix smacked his sixth home run of the season,
a two-run shot to right center field in the second inning. Felix,
who has 29 career home runs, needs one more to tie the all-time
Trinity record. He scored two runs in the game, as did sophomore
first baseman Jonathan Hall.
DeSales put up a run in each of the third, fifth, sixth, and ninth
innings. The Bulldogs scored three earned runs, collected 10 hits,
and made one error.
The Tigers added one run in the eighth on an RBI single by senior
outfielder John Paillet.
Trinity first-year second baseman Nick Iacovella hit 1-3 with two
RBI and a double.
Senior right-hander Michael Panozzo hurled 5 1/3 innings, and upped
his record to 4-0. Panozzo allowed fove earned runs, five hits, no
walks, and struck out three players.
Noah Solomon, a senior right-hander, entered the game in the sixth
inning, and played a major role in shutting down DeSales. With the
bases loaded, Solomon retired the final two batters, including a
strikeout. Junior right-handed pitcher Josh Fink hurled the
final 1 2/3 innings and picked up the save, his first of the
season.
Trinity scattered seven hits and committed one error in the
game.
The defending SCAC champion Tigers will host Millsaps in a two-game
series Saturday and Sunday. The opener on Saturday starts at 1
p.m., and Sunday's game is at noon. Trinity stands at 6-1 in
conference play.
