Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger baseball team
lost a battle for first place in the SCAC West Division on
Saturday, as the Millsaps Majors scored eight runs in the top of
the 10th inning to win 12-4 at the Trinity Baseball Field.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, now stands at 17-3
and 6-2 SCAC. Millsaps improved to 12-5 and 7-1. The two teams will
play a single game at noon Sunday.
The Majors scored eight runs, on five hits and one Tiger error
in the extra inning. Millsaps' inning was highlighted by two home
runs (four RBI) hit by third baseman Will Hawkins.
Trinity tied the score at 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the
ninth inning. Senior catcher Kyle Felix cracked his seventh home
run of the season, a two-run shot to center field. Felix now has 30
home runs in his career, and tied the all-time Tiger record. He
batted 2-5 with two RBI, and scored one run.
The first eight innings of the 4-hour, 10-minute game were
definitely a pitcher's duel, as the score was even at 2-2.
Trinity sophomore right-hander Ben Klimesh was the first of
seven Tiger pitchers. Klimesh, who hurled 7 1/3 innings, allowed
two earned runs, only one hit, three walks, and fanned 12 Millsaps
players. Sophomore right-hander Michael Bentz (1-2) was the fourth
Tiger pitcher, entered the game in the ninth inning, and took the
loss.
Senior outfielder Kevin Calbick batted 2-3 with a double.
First-year shortstop Christian Muscarello went 2-4 in the game, and
sophomore first baseman Jonathan Hall scored two of the Tigers'
runs.
Trinity, ranked 10th by d3baseball.com, left 12 players on base,
while Millsaps stranded eight players. The Tigers out-hit the
Majors 10-8 in the game.
