Trinity Baseball Splits SCAC Doubleheader with Austin College

Sherman, Texas -- The defending SCAC champion Trinity Tigers split a doubleheader with the Austin College Kangaroos Saturday at Baker Field.
 
Austin College took the opening seven-inning game 6-2, and Trinity won the nine-inning match-up 9-3. The two teams conclude their season series at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Tigers (20-5, 8-3 SCAC) beat the 'Roos in a two-game series last month in San Antonio.
 
Trinity scored in the opening game as senior catcher Kyle Felix hit a SAC fly RBI to left field in the first inning. Austin College evened the score with a run at the bottom of the inning, and then added two in the second to go up 3-1. Two runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth, gave the 'Roos a 6-1 lead.
 
The Tigers' second run came in the seventh as senior first baseman Dominick Robusto hit an RBI single.
 
Senior right-handed pitcher Noah Solomon started the game, and took the loss, while hurling 1 1/3 innings. Solomon had his first loss of the season, and now stands at 3-1.
 
Trinity scored two earned runs, made five hits, and committed four errors. Austin College had two earned runs, six hits, and one error.
 
The Tigers came out of the gate in the first inning of Game 2, with three runs. First-year second baseman Nicholas Iacovella walloped a three-RBI double down the right field line.
 
Austin College (4-13, 2-9) answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Junior outfielder Nick Pappas hit an RBI single in the third, coupled with an Austin College throwing error, as the Tigers scored a run and took a 4-3 lead. Trinity added a run in the fourth inning, courtesy of an RBI single by senior outfielder Kevin Jackson.
 
Trinity scored two runs in the sixth, keyed by two RBI by senior outfielder John Paillet. The second of two runs in the seventh was from an RBI double smacked by first-year shortstop Christian Muscarello.
 
Iacovella batted 3-5 with three RBI, and scored two runs. Pappas went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs, while Paillet hit 2-4 with two RBI.
 
Junior right-hander Ben Klimesh hurled seven innings and took the victory. Klimesh, undefeated at 7-0, did not allow an earned run (three total), and gave up six hits and five walks. Klimesh also recorded 11 strikeouts. First-year left-hander Clayton Freimuth pitched the final three innings, and did not yield a run. Freimuth gave up only one hit, one walk, and struck out two batters.
 
The Tigers scored six earned runs, smashed 12 hits, and made one error. Austin College committed four errors in the second half of the twinbill.
