Trinity Tigers wrapped up their weekend series with the Austin
College Kangaroos with a 5-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Baker
Field.
Trinity (21-5, 9-3 SCAC) won the overall series 4-1 with the 'Roos.
Austin College stands at 4-15 and 2-10.
The Tigers struck first with a two-run second inning, sparked by a
triple to left center by senior outfielder Kevin Calbick.
First-year second baseman Nicholas Iacovella and senior outfielder
John Paillet each contributed an RBI.
Austin College tied the game at 2-2 with one run in each of the
third and fourth innings.
Calbick then gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead, following a solo home run
in the sixth - his second of the seeason.
Again the 'Roos answered, scoring a run in the bottom half of
the sixth inning, and tying the score 3-3.
The Tigers went ahead for good with two runs in the seventh, with
Paillet picking up another RBI on a groundout to first
base.
Calbick batted 2-3 with an RBI, and scored two runs. Iacovella
hit 2-5, with one RBI and one run scored, Sophomore third baseman
Kevin Francke went 2-4 at the plate.
Senior right-hander Chris Walden (1-0) entered in the sixth inning,
and picked up the victory. Walden pitched the final four innings,
and did not allow a run. He yielded only two hits and one walk,
while also recording a strikeout.
The Tigers, ranked 12th by d3baseball.com, host Hardin-Simmons
(which received votes) in a non-conference game at 5 p.m. Tuesday
at the Trinity Baseball Field.
