Box Score San Antonio -- The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys edged the Trinity Tigers 2-1 Tuesday in a non-conference game at the Trinity Baseball Field.
Trinity, ranked 10th by d3baseball.com, now stands at 21-6. Hardin-Simmons, which received votes in the poll, improved to 18-5.
Hardin-Simmons designated hitter Troy Tarrant broke the 1-1 deadlock with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Cowboys scored first in the game, with one run in the top of the third inning. Trinity's run came in the bottom half of the inning as senior catcher Kyle Felix singled to left center field, scoring senior outfielder Kevin Jackson.
Jackson batted 2-4 with one run scored, and tied for a spot in the top-10 list of Trinity career hits. Senior outfielder Kevin Calbick hit 2-4 with a double, and junior designated hitter Nick Pappas went 2-4 at the plate.
Senior right-hander Noah Solomon started the game, and hurled for four innings. He allowed one run, five hits, one walk, and struck out four players. Junior right-hander Joshua Fink (0-1) was Trinity's third pitcher, and worked the final four innings, while taking the loss.
Trinity's run was earned, and the Tigers collected eight hits and made no errors. Hardin-Simmons' two runs were earned, and the Cowboys also had eight hits, but did not commit an error.
The Tigers resume their SCAC campaign Saturday at Conway, Ark. Defending SCAC champion Trinity (9-3 in conference play) takes on Hendrix in single games Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers return home next Tuesday to host Texas Lutheran at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
