Box Score Jackson, Mississippi – The Trinity Tigers
completed a three-game weekend series sweep with an 18-7 SCAC
victory over the Millsaps Majors Sunday at Twenty Field.
Trinity (29-8, 15-5 SCAC) also won the overall season series 4-1,
as the teams split two games last month in San Antonio. The Tigers
earlier clinched the West Division top-seeded position for the SCAC
Championship Tournament. Trinity will defend its conference title
April 21-24 at Millington, Tenn.
Tiger outfielder Dylan Early was the player of the game, as he
swatted two home runs, and tied a school record with eight RBI.
This marks just the fifth time in school history that a Tiger
player has posted eight RBI in a game. Matt Fillman set the
record in 1998, Bo Edwards achieved the feat twice in 1999, and
Blake Holman did the same in 2005.
Early now has four round-trippers to his credit this season,
cracking a grand slam in Trinity's eight-run seventh inning,
and then hitting a three-run shot in the ninth. Early batted 3-6
with eight RBI, and scored three runs.
Kyle Felix, Trinity's all-time home run leader, increased his
season total to 12 with a two-run homer in the seventh. Felix hit
2-5 with three RBI and scored two runs.
Millsaps (21-15, 9-9 SCAC) scored first in the game, with one run
in the second inning. The Tigers tied the score with a run in the
third. After the Majors went up 2-1 with a run in the fifth,
Trinity again tied the game with a run in the sixth.
Along came the home-run laden seventh inning, and the Tigers led
10-2. Millsaps scored four runs in the seventh, and their final run
in the eighth. Trinity's offense kept moving, with five runs
in the top of the eighth, and three in the ninth.
Third baseman Dominick Robusto, who accounted for three doubles,
batted 3-7 with three RBI and one run. Shortstop Christian
Muscarello went 3-5, and scored three of the Tigers runs.
Outfielder Kevin Jackson added three runs for the Trinity
cause.
Pitcher Ben Klimesh (9-1) was the starter and claimed the victory.
Klimesh, the first of four pitchers, hurled six innings and allowed
two earned runs, three hits, five walks, and struck out four
batters. The Tiger pitching staff gave up five earned runs and only
five hits.
The Tigers travel to Kerrville, Texas, Tuesday for a non-conference
game at 7 p.m. with Schreiner.
