Box Score Irving, Texas - The Tiger baseball team closed
out its regular season with a 4-3 loss in 10 innings at the
University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity now stands at 29-11 this season, though the Tigers did
win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division with
a 15-5 record in conference play.
The Tigers will defend their Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference title at the six-team, double-elimination SCAC
Championship Tournament Thursday through next Sunday at Millington,
Tenn. Trinity (No. 1 in the West Division) takes on Oglethorpe (No.
3 East) in the opening round at 7 p.m. Thursday at USA Baseball
Stadium.
The winner of the tournament is assured of a slot in the NCAA
Division III playoffs.
Dallas opened Sunday's scoring with a solo home run in the
fifth inning, and added a run in the sixth to lead 2-0. The Tigers
rallied to tie the game with two runs in the eighth, on a two-RBI
single by third baseman Dominick Robusto. Outfielders Dylan Early
and John Paillet scored the runs.
Trinity took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th, as Early scored
his second run of the game, on an error by the Dallas catcher.
Early got on base with a double, and advanced to third as
outfielder Kevin Calbick lined out to right field.
The Crusaders scored their final runs on an RBI single and SAC
bunt in the bottom of the inning.
Trinity second baseman Kevin Jackson batted 2-4, while smacking
two doubles.
Michael Bentz was the starting pitcher, and hurled for 5 1/3
innings. Bentz allowed one earned run, eight hits, two walks, and
struck out three batters. Noah Solomon (4-2) pitched the final four
innings and took the loss. Solomon yielded an earned run, five
hits, no walks, and fanned five players.
