Box Score Suwanee, Georgia - In exclusive voting by
conference head baseball coaches, Trinity's Tim Scannell was named
the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year,
as announced on Thursday evening.
Coach Scannell is in his 13th season, and has amassed more than
400 wins in his career. Early this season, he passed Trinity
Hall of Famer Houston Wheeler to become Trinity's all-time leader
in victories.
With Thursday night's win over Oglethorpe to open the 2011 SCAC
Tournament, the Tigers reached 30 wins for the 10th time under
Coach Scannell. Trinity held a 29-11 mark heading into the
tournament, having earned a 15-5 record in conference play, winning
the SCAC West Division.
This year's award is the sixth for Coach Scannell, who has also
won in 1999, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. He is in the top 20
among all active Division III coaches in winning percentage (.697),
which also puts him number one in SCAC history.
Trinity will face DePauw University on Friday night at the SCAC
Tournament. The double-elimination tournament concludes on
Sunday, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the
NCAA Playoffs.
