Head Coach Tim Scannell Named SCAC Coach of the Year

Box Score

Suwanee, Georgia - In exclusive voting by conference head baseball coaches, Trinity's Tim Scannell was named the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, as announced on Thursday evening.

Coach Scannell is in his 13th season, and has amassed more than 400 wins in his career.  Early this season, he passed Trinity Hall of Famer Houston Wheeler to become Trinity's all-time leader in victories.

With Thursday night's win over Oglethorpe to open the 2011 SCAC Tournament, the Tigers reached 30 wins for the 10th time under Coach Scannell.  Trinity held a 29-11 mark heading into the tournament, having earned a 15-5 record in conference play, winning the SCAC West Division.

This year's award is the sixth for Coach Scannell, who has also won in 1999, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010.  He is in the top 20 among all active Division III coaches in winning percentage (.697), which also puts him number one in SCAC history.

Trinity will face DePauw University on Friday night at the SCAC Tournament.  The double-elimination tournament concludes on Sunday, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
