Trinity Baseball Wraps Up Home Schedule With Victory Over McMurry

Box Score

San Antonio -- The Trinity Tigers wrapped up their regular-season home campaign with an 8-5 win over McMurry Tuesday at the Trinity Baseball Field.

Trinity, which won its fifth straight game, improved to 26-8. McMurry dropped to 8-20. Next Tuesday's home game with Schreiner, originally scheduled to be played at Trinity, was moved to Kerrville, Texas.

Tiger senior catcher Kyle Felix swatted his second home run in as many games, a solo shot in the third inning. Felix broke the Tigers all-time home run record during last Sunday's SCAC win over Southwestern. He now has 32 round-trippers to his credit, including nine this season.

Trinity opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning, and then added one run in the third, courtesy of Felix's home run. McMurry came to life with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Trinity took a 5-3 lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning. A McMurry solo home run in the fifth made the score 4-5. The Tigers scored two runs in the sixth, and one in the seventh. McMurry did add one run in the eighth, but the Tigers prevailed.

Senior third baseman Dominick Robusto batted 3-4 with an RBI, and scored two of the Tigers' runs. First-year shortstop Christian Muscarello hit 3-5, and also scored two runs.

Noah Solomon, a senior right-hander, entered the game in the fourth inning and took the win. Solomon (4-1) hurled 4 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, three hits, two walks, and struck out four batters. Senior right-hander Michael Panozzo, Trinity's fourth pitcher of the game, worked the final inning and picked up the save, his first of the season. Panozzo sent McMurry down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning.

The Tigers runs were all earned. Trinity cracked 11 hits and made one error. McMurry scored five earned runs, made seven hits, and committed two errors.

Trinity travels to Jackson, Miss., for a three-game series with Millsaps Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers (12-5 SCAC) are in first place in the SCAC West, 1 1/2 games ahead of Millsaps.

The Tigers earlier qualified for the SCAC Championship Tournament April 21-24 at Millington, Tenn.
