Box Score 2 San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team swept a
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from Hendrix
College on Sunday afternoon, winning 7-2 and 10-0.
Trinity opened SCAC play with today's games, and the team
improved its overall record to 9-1 this season.
Ben Klimesh upped his record to 4-0 with the complete-game
victory in game one, giving up two runs on three hits, and striking
out nine batters.
Ryan Lucero gave the Tigers their second dominating pitching
performance of the day in the second game, tossing a three-hit
shutout to secure the Sunday sweep. Lucero recorded four
strikeouts in his first career shutout.
Hendrix took the early lead with a second-inning run off of
Klimesh in the opener, but the Tigers hammered out three runs in
the third to take the lead for good. The Warriors made it 3-2
in the fifth, but Trinity then scored four more in the bottom of
the fifth and sixth innings to finish off the win.
Kevin Clements and Kelly Woodruff both went deep in the ball
game. Woodruff was 2-3 with one RBI and two runs scored,
while Clements had a pair of RBI to go with one run scored.
Nick Pappas also had two RBI in the game.
Trinity's offense picked up right where it left off in game two,
piling up four runs in the first inning of play. After runs
in the third and fifth, the Tigers then set up the mercy rule with
four more in the bottom of the sixth.
Christian Muscarello had a bases-clearing double and a two-run
home run in game two, tallying five RBI and scoring two runs.
Jonathan Hall collected three hits in the game, while Kevin
Clements drove in a pair of runs.
Including Muscarello, the top five batters in Trinity's lineup
scored two runs each, accounting for all of the scoring in the
finale. Dominick Robusto, Will Donnan, Nick Pappas, and Pat
Hirschberg were the 1-4 hitters, with Muscarello cleaning up after
them. Robusto also stole a pair of bases in the game.
Trinity will be back on the road for three games this week,
starting with a Tuesday afternoon game at the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor. Next Saturday and Sunday, the Tigers will
continue SCAC play at the University of Dallas.
