Box Score Irving, Texas - Trinity's baseball team earned
a 12-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over
previously unbeaten University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon,
taking sole possession of first place in the West Division
standings.
Trinity moved to 11-1 overall, and 3-0 in SCAC play, while
Dallas fell to 9-1 this season, and 2-1 in the conference.
The game was shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
Ben Klimesh improved to 5-0 this season with another outstanding
performance. Klimesh struck out a career-high 14 batters in
the game, giving up just one run on five hits, and walking zero
batters. He struck out at least one batter in every inning of
the game, and all but two innings ended with a Klimesh
strikeout.
The Tiger offense made it that much easier for Klimesh, though,
staking him to a 3-0 lead before he even took the mound. Pat
Hirschberg's two-run home run capped the three-run first, giving
Trinity the eventual game-winning runs just four batters into the
game.
Trinity came out with three more runs in the third, then added
single runs in the fifth and sixth to push the lead to 8-0.
Dallas finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, but
Christian Muscarello's leadoff homer in the seventh sparked a
four-run inning by the Tigers, putting the game out of reach.
Offensively, Trinity pounded out 15 hits overall, with three
Tiger players collecting three hits each. Dominick Robusto
was 3-5 with two runs and one RBI from his leadoff spot, while
Hirschberg and Muscarello also had three hits each. In
addition their home runs, both Tiger players also had doubles in
the game, and drove in two runs each. Hirschberg also scored
three times.
Kelly Woodruff was 2-3 with a run scored, while Jonathan Hall
finished 1-3 with two runs and one RBI. Nick Pappas, who
drove in the game's first run with a single in the first, was 2-4
with two runs and two RBI.
Trinity and Dallas conclude the weekend series with a single
game tomorrow afternoon, also at 1:00 p.m.
