Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team opened
its 2012 season with a 6-2 victory in game one of a doubleheader
against Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon.
The ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by Trinity Athletics
Hall of Fame member Jerry Grote (class of 2011).
Trinity came back from an early deficits in the game, as
Schreiner opened the game with a run in the first inning. The
Tigers answered quickly, though, with two runs of its own on a home
run by Nick Pappas.
After Schreiner tied the game 2-2 in the second, Trinity took
the lead for good with its third run in the bottom of the
inning. The Tiger offense added three insurance runs in the
bottom of the sixth.
As it turned out, the insurance runs weren't needed, as Trinity
starter Ben Klimesh heated up in the middle innings. He
struck out the side in the fourth and the sixth innings, and
finished up a complete-game five-hitter in the seven-inning
game. Klimesh struck out a total of 13 batters in the game,
giving up just two runs (one earned) on five hits.
Kevin Clements joined Pappas with two RBI in the game,
collecting two hits and scoring a run. Christian Muscarello
also drove in two runs, while Jonathan Hall scored a pair of
runs.
The win marked the third straight season that the Tigers opened
the season in victory, with each of those coming against
Schreiner.
