Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team finished
off a doubleheader sweep on opening day of the 2012 season with a
12-4 win over Schreiner University.
Trinity (2-0) scored seven runs in the first three innings of
play, and jumped out to a 10-0 lead before yielding a score.
Schreiner scored four runs in the final four innings, but the
Tigers scored in all but two innings overall to keep a comfortable
lead throughout.
Ryan Lucero pitched five strong shutout innings to earn the win
for Trinity, striking out five, and giving up just two hits.
Zack Speer struck out three in two innings of relief work, giving
up just one unearned run on a pair of hits.
Nick Pappas was 3-5 with two runs and three RBI in the second
game, giving him five RBI on the day against Schreiner. Three
of his four hits today were for extra bases - including two doubles
in the second game.
Pat Hirschberg was 2-4 with three runs and three RBI in the
game, including a double and a home run. Jonathan Hall also
went deep for the Tigers, finishing 2-4 with a run and two
RBI.
Nick Griffith got the start in game two, responding with two
hits and two runs, while Dominick Robusto also scored a pair of
runs. Chris Bianchi came off the bench with a 2-2
performance, while Christian Muscarello also had two hits for the
Tigers.
Trinity returns to action next weekend, taking on three teams at
Concordia (TX) University. The Tigers will face Howard Payne
on Friday afternoon, followed by Saturday games against Louisiana
College and Concordia.
