Box Score Sherman, Texas - Trinity's baseball team
completed a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
weekend series sweep with a 4-1 win over Austin College on Sunday
afternoon.
Trinity improved to 19-3 with the victory, as well as remaining
undefeated in conference play, with an 8-0 record.
Ryan Lucero improved his season record to 6-0, and dropped his
ERA below 1.00 with his Sunday outing. Lucero threw eight
shutout innings, allowing four hits and just one walk, and striking
out two batters. Michael Bentz pitched the ninth to close out
the game, and only an unearned run kept the Tiger duo from
combining for a shutout.
Kelly Woodruff went 3-5 with one run and one RBI for the Tigers,
while Christian Muscarello was 2-4 on the day. Dominick
Robusto was 2-5 with one run and one RBI as well.
Four Tiger players hit doubles for the only extra-base hits of
the game. Nick Griffith hit the first double, which led to a
Trinity run in the second inning. Kevin Clements also had a
two-out double in the seventh, but was stranded there.
Robusto and Nick Pappas both had RBI doubles in a three-run
fifth inning that gave Lucero a 4-0 cushion. The Tigers had
just four hits after that inning, but the four runs scored proved
to be enough.
Trinity returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, facing off
against Texas Lutheran University. The Tigers return home
next Saturday and Sunday, hosting the University of Dallas for a
three-game SCAC series.
