Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's 11th-ranked baseball
team suffered a 17-4 loss to ninth-ranked Chapman University on
Friday night.
Trinity fell to 12-2 with the loss, which is the team's worst
defeat since an 18-5 game against Millsaps in 2007.
The Tigers gave up five runs in the first inning - including a
solo home run to the first batter of the game. In the second,
Trinity allowed eight more runs to make it 13-0 after two
innings.
Josh Fink (3-1) was charged with the loss, allowing 10 runs on
five hits, but just six of the runs were earned. He allowed a
home run to the leadoff batter in the game, then hit a batter, and
issued a walk. After settling in with two strikeouts, a Tiger
error extended the inning, and led to four more runs. Fink
was unable to recover after that.
Trinity finally got on the board in the fourth inning, plating
four runs on a couple of hits, and also taking advantage of two
Chapman errors. Kyle Tachibana allowed no runs on just two
hits over the final 5.2 innings, striking out six, and picking up
the victory to improve to 1-0.
Tiger relivers Tanner Barron and Matthew Tindall combined for
4.2 innings of relief, giving up one hit each in the middle
innings. Barron struck out three batters.
Christian Muscarello was 2-4 with a run and two RBI for the
Tigers, picking up a triple and a double in his first two
at-bats. Jonathan Hall was 1-3 with one run and one RBI.
The three-game weekend series continues with 1:00 p.m. game
tomorrow, then finishes with a Sunday afternoon game.
