Box Score 2 San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team swept
both games of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
doubleheader against the University of Dallas on Saturday
afternoon, winning 9-1 and 9-8.
Top-ranked Trinity (21-3, 10-0) won for the ninth time in the
last 10 games, including the last six games in a row.
The Tigers rallied from a one-run deficit with an eight-run
fourth inning that pretty much sealed the win in the opening
game. In game two, Trinity had to hold off a late rally by
Dallas to escape with the victory.
Trinity was ahead 7-1 after three innings in game two, then
Dallas scored two runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to
make it an 8-7 Tiger lead after six. The Crusaders then tied
the game with a run in the seventh, but Christian Muscarello
crushed a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to secure the
win.
In game one, Trinity had six hits in the fourth inning to plate
eight runs, erasing a 1-0 Dallas lead. The Tigers added
another run in the fifth to finish the scoring.
Ben Klimesh earned the win in the opening game, improving to 9-0
on the season. He allowed one run on five hits through six
innings, striking out nine batters. With his nine strikeouts,
Klimesh tied the SCAC record for career strikeouts (Mike Frost,
2001-04).
Nick Griffith and Kevin Clements had two RBI each in the opening
game, while Kelly Woodruff scored two runs to go with his two
hits. Griffith, Woodruff, and Nick Pappas had two hits each
in the game.
Michael Bentz (2-0) took the win in the second game, pitching
the final three innings without allowing a hit, and retiring the
final six batters in order to clinch the win.
Muscarello went 2-3 with three runs scored in the second game,
and the home run was his fifth this season.
Pat Hirschberg was 2-3 with two runs and three RBI in the second
game, while Dominick Robusto collected three hits. Griffith
drove in two more runs in the seocnd game, while Clements and
Pappas had two more hits in game two.
Trinity and Dallas will conclude their regular season series
with a single game tomorrow, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The
Tigers will also host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:00
p.m. on Tuesday evening.
