Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team completed
a season series sweep with a 9-3 win over the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night.
The Tigers improved to 23-3 overall this season, and extended
their winning streak to eight games. Trinity defeated UMHB
5-3 earlier this season, in Belton, Texas.
Trinity finally came to life after a sluggish start to the game,
but it took a 3-0 UMHB lead to wake up the Tiger offense.
Trinity scored nine runs in a four-inning stretch to put the game
away, starting with a three-run fourth inning.
Christian Muscarello sparked the big inning with a leadoff
single, and the Tigers tallied five hits to plate three runs.
Dominick Robusto tied the game with a one-out single through the
left side of the infield.
Clinging to a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning, the Tigers put
together a crucial two-out rally to bring in two runs. Kevin
Francke started the damage with a two-out walk, which was followed
by a fielding error and a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring
position. Kelly Woodruff cracked a two-run single to right
field, and Trinity went up 6-3 at that point.
Robusto knocked in two more runs in the seventh to finish off
the scoring, and he was 2-5 with one run and three RBI in the
game. Will Donnan also picked up his second RBI of the day in
the seventh, going 1-4 and scoring two runs.
Woodruff had two hits to go with his two RBI, while Pat
Hirschberg scored two runs. Nick Pappas also had two hits in
the game - including Trinity's only extra-base hit, which was a
leadoff double off the wall in the fifth inning. Nick
Griffith also had two hits for the Tigers.
Franklin Bay (1-0) earned the win, pitching two innings of
relief without allowing a hit. Ben Klimesh made a rare relief
appearance, striking out four batters in two innings of work late
in the game. Trinity relievers held UMHB scoreless, giving up
just one hit over the final 5.1 innings of the game.
Trinity will not play again until next Tuesday (April 3), when
it will travel to face Hardin-Simmons University, in Abilene,
Texas. The Tigers return home to play Texas Lutheran
University on Tuesday, April 10.
