Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team defeated
Cardinal Stritch University 13-3 in a non-conference matchup on
Tuesday night.
The Tigers actually fell behind early in the ball game, as
Stritch manufactured a run in the top of the first with two hits
and a pair of walks. The Wolves stranded the bases loaded in
the inning, missing a chance at more runs.
In the second, Trinity was on the receiving end of three
straight walks to start the inning, then had back-to-back sacrifice
flies by Chris Bianchi and Kevin Francke to take a 2-1 lead.
Christian Muscarello closed out the scoring with a two-run homer -
his fifth of the season - that put the Tigers up 4-1 at the
time.
Stritch quickly rallied with two more runs in the third, driving
home runs with a walk and a hit-batter with the bases loaded.
The Tigers added two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to
make it 8-3, though, including two bases-loaded walks in the
sixth.
In the seventh, Trinity benefitted from a total of four errors
by Stritch, leading to five unearned runs in the inning. Most
of those came on a grand slam by Nick Pappas, which was his fourth
round-tripper of the season.
Pappas finished 2-5 with a run and four RBI in the game, while
Muscarello was 1-2 with three runs and two RBI for the
Tigers. Nick Griffith had two hits to go with one run and one
RBI, while Francke scored twice. Tim Stanton collected his
first career hit as a pinch-hitter in the eighth.
Tanner Barron (1-0) was credited with the win, pitching four
innings of relief, giving up no runs on just one hit. He
struck out five batters, though he did issue seven
walks. Alex Herz gave up three runs on two hits through 2.2
innings as the starter, striking out four, but walking
five.
Franklin Bay and Kyle Bogese finished off the game for the
Tigers, allowing one hit and zero walks in the final 2.1
innings. Bogese struck out two batters in the top of the
ninth to close the game.
Trinity will face DeSales University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday
night, then will host Southwestern University for a two-game
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series on Saturday and
Sunday.
