Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team hit three
home runs to score a 13-5 win over Texas Lutheran University on
Tuesday night.
The Tigers improved to 26-6 this season with the win, beating
the Bulldogs for the fifth time in the last six regular season
meetings.
Jules Cronk crushed two home runs in the game, finishing 3-4
with three runs and four RBI to lead the Tiger offense. Pat
Hirschberg also hit a home run in the eighth inning, which was his
sixth of the season.
Cronk has now homered three times in the past two games, which
are the first home runs of his career with the Tigers.
Texas Lutheran took the early lead after scoring in the first
inning, taking advantage of an error on a confusing play.
After an error moved a runner from first to third, the Tigers
thought they had been awarded timeout, and left home plate
uncovered. The Bulldog runner stole home to put the first run
on the board.
Trinity answered with a three-run second inning, rallying for
five hits with two outs to take a 3-1 lead. Cronk then led
off the fourth with a solo shot to make it 4-1, before TLU stormed
back in front with four runs in the fifth inning to make it
5-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, the first three Tigers had
base-hits, and the game was tied on an RBI single by Nick
Pappas. Three batters later, Cronk hit his second
round-tripper to put Trinity in front for good.
The Tigers added three more runs in the sixth, before
Hirschberg's two-run homer in the eighth finished off the
scoring. Trinity scored nine unanswered runs after TLU took
the lead in the fifth inning.
Michael Bentz (3-1) earned the win, pitching 3.1 innings of
relief, and giving up one run on four hits. Tanner Barron
started the game, but was chased after 4.2 innings, giving up four
runs - three earned - on two hits, and striking out six
batters. Ryan Lucero struck out two batters in the ninth to
finish off the victory.
Trinity will continue its Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference schedule this weekend, traveling to Hendrix College for
a three-game series in Conway, Arkansas.
