Box Score Conway, Arkansas - Trinity's baseball team
finished off a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
weekend series with a 9-8 win at Hendrix College on Sunday
afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 29-6 this season, and have clinched the
SCAC West Division's top seed with the victory. Trinity
stands 15-2 in conference play, after wrapping up a 5-0 record
against Hendrix - currently in second place in the West.
Both teams decided to get all the offense out of the way early,
as the two offenses combined for 13 runs in the first two innings,
and scored all 17 runs by the fifth.
Trinity opened the game with a three-run first inning, but
Hendrix fought back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to
take the lead. After the Tigers added three more in the
second, the Warriors answered with the same in the bottom half to
go back on top 7-6.
Hendrix tacked on another run in the fourth to take a two-run
lead, but Trinity's Dominick Robusto's two-run single capped a
three-run inning that put the Tigers in front for good.
Robusto was 3-5 with two runs and two RBI in the game, while
Kevin Clements was 4-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Clements picked up Trinity's lone extra-base hit - a first-inning
double to make it 3-0 at the time.
Kelly Woodruff scored a pair of runs for the Tigers, while Nick
Pappas collected two RBI in the game. Pappas was also one of
three Tigers (Robusto, Clements) to nab a stolen base.
Franklin Bay (2-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing just
one run on five hits through five innings of work. He
struck out two batters, and did not issue a walk. Tanner
Barron came on for the final 1.2 innings to earn his first save of
the season.
Trinity returns to action on Tuesday afternoon at Schreiner,
which will mark the final road game of the regular season.
The Tigers host Austin College for a three-game SCAC series this
weekend, wrapping up the regular season schedule.
