Box Score Millington, Tennessee - Trinity's baseball team
earned a 2-1 win in the opening game of the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Championships Tournament on Thursday.
Trinity improved to 33-8 with the win, which is the ninth
consecutive SCAC Tournament victory for the Tigers. Trinity
is looking to become the third team in SCAC history to win three
consecutive conference titles.
Ben Klimesh (12-2) tied the school record for wins in a season,
throwing a complete-game three-hitter. Klimesh allowed one
uneared run and struck out eight batters in the game.
Kevin Clements got the Tigers going early with a solo homer in
the second inning. Clements was 1-2 with a walk in the game,
connecting for his third round-tripper of the season.
In the fifth, leadoff hitter Dominick Robusto put Trinity up 2-0
with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
Robusto was 2-4 with what proved to be the game-winning RBI, which
came after Millsaps stranded two runners in scoring position with
no outs in the top of the inning.
The Majors finally got a run across in the eighth, taking
advantage of a Trinity error to cut the lead to 2-1, but could not
get anything else against Klimesh.
Trinity will play tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. against the loser of
Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Dallas.
Those two teams play at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
