Box Score Millington, Tennessee - The Tiger baseball team
was eliminated from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Tournament with a 13-3 loss to Millsaps College on Saturday
night.
Trinity falls to 34-10 with the loss, marking just the third
time all season that the Tigers have lost back-to-back games.
Millsaps advances to the SCAC Championship against
Birmingham-Southern tomorrow. Earlier in the day, BSC
defeated Trinity 5-3, while Millsaps eliminated Rhodes.
After a scoreless first, Millsaps got on the board in a big way
in the second inning, scoring six runs to take command early in the
game. The Majors scored five unearned runs, taking advantage
of two Trinity errors in the inning.
Millsaps added six more runs in a five-hit fifth inning, then
answered a Trinity run in the sixth with another score in the
bottom of the inning to keep the lead at 12 runs.
The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but
couldn't manage to extend the game, which ended after the top of
the seventh due to a 10-run rule.
Dominick Robusto reached base three times for Trinity, and was
the only Tiger player with more than one hit. Trinity had
nine hits, but couldn't string enough together to score any runs
until the end.
Nick Pappas crushed his first home run of the tournament - his
sixth of the season - in the seventh, driving in a pair of
runs.
Nick Griffith was saddled with the loss, giving up just one
earned run - six runs overall - on five hits in the first two-plus
innings.
Trinity will await a potential at-large bid to the NCAA
Playoffs, and the winner of the SCAC will earn an automatic
invitation to the postseason.
