Box Score 2 Georgetown, Texas - The Tiger baseball team was
swept in both games of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
doubleheader at Southwestern University on Friday, losing 6-2 and
9-7.
Trinity fell to 24-6 overall this season, suffering the first
two conference losses of the season to move to 11-2. It is
also the first time this season that the Tigers have lost two
consecutive games.
In the opening game, Southwestern jumped ahead 3-0 after the
third inning, starting with two unearned runs in the second.
Trinity rallied with runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 3-2,
but a three-run sixth inning put the Pirates in front by four
runs. All three runs were unearned in the sixth.
Michael Bentz (2-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven
hits through 3.2 innings of work. Tanner Barron came on with
2.1 innings of relief, allowing three unearned runs on three hits
to finish the game.
The Tigers were held to six hits in the game, and no player had
more than one. Kevin Francke cracked his second home run of
the season in the game, which was the last run scored by
Trinity.
Game two saw the Tigers jump out 2-0 after the first inning,
taking their first lead of the day. Trinity scored again in
the fifth to make it 3-0, before Southwestern got on the board with
a run in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth, the Pirates exploded for six runs on four hits to
take command of the game. Southwestern went up 9-3 with two
more runs in the seventh. Trinity's ninth-inning rally
resulted in four runs to make it 9-7, but ultimately fell
short.
Nick Pappas led the offense with two doubles in the second game,
while Christian Muscarello had two RBI - both of which came in the
ninth. Chris Bianchi had a pinch-hit double in the ninth
that drove in two runs as well. Kevin Clements picked up two
hits in the second game.
Zack Speer gave up five runs on five hits through five-plus
innings, and Trinity used a total of four pitchers in the sixth
inning. Nick Griffith gave up just two hits over the final
two innings to finish the game.
Trinity and Southwestern will conclude their regular season
series with a single game tomorrow afternoon. Each team has
won twice, with Saturday's game clinching the series between the
conference rivals.
