Box Score Georgetown, Texas - Senior pitcher Ben Klimesh
broke Trinity's single season strikeouts record to lead the Tiger
baseball team to a 10-0 victory over Southwestern University on
Saturday afternoon.
Trinity improved to 25-6 overall with the victory, and remains
in first place in the SCAC West Division with a 12-2 conference
record.
The Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader yesterday against
Southwestern, making today's game the clincher for the regular
season series. Trinity also beat the Pirates 5-1 and 9-1 in
San Antonio earlier this season.
Ben Klimesh threw seven shutout innings to earn his 10th win of
the season, allowing no runs on four hits. He also recorded
seven strikeouts to break the Tiger record for strikeouts in one
season, passing Brian Nowell's 1998 mark of 121. He needs
just 10 more to break Trinity's career record for strikeouts.
Michael Bentz pitched the final inning to combine with Klimesh
for the shutout. Bentz allowed two hits in the final frame,
but also recorded two strikeouts to finish off the win.
Pat Hirschberg led the Tiger offense with a 5-5 performance at
the plate, scoring four runs and driving in another. He had
three singles, a double, and a triple in the victory, leaving him a
home run shy of hitting for the cycle in the game.
Jules Cronk was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI, and his first
career home run highlighted a five-run eighth inning for the
Tigers. Dominick Robusto had three hits and scored a run,
while Nick Griffith and Kelly Woodruff scored two runs and
collected two hits each.
Trinity returns home on Tuesday night, facing off against Texas
Lutheran University at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will face Hendrix
College in a three-game road series next weekend.
