Box Score Orange, California - The Tiger baseball
team opened up the 2013 season with a 7-1 victory at Chapman
University on Thursday night, led by a pitching gem from senior
Ryan Lucero.
Trinity (1-0) opened the game with a four-run first inning,
which was all Lucero needed in what would turn out to be a
masterful performance. Lucero took a no-hitter into the
eighth inning, and finished with 10 strikeouts and one unearned
run.
Chapman broke through with its only run of the game in that
eighth inning, taking advantage of a pair of Tiger errors.
Trinity committed four errors in the game, but still pulled
off the victory.
First-year Connor Moore opened the game with a single for
Trinity, and eventually came around to score on a two-run single by
Pat Hirschberg. Kevin Clements also drove in a run in the
first inning, and the final run of the frame was scored on a
balk.
Lucero then struck out a pair of batters in the bottom of the
inning, then pushed his total to eight strikeouts in the first five
innings. Colin Serkowski finished off the final 1.2 innings
to finish off the team's victory, allowing no runs on just one
hit.
The Tigers added a run in the sixth on a single by Will Donnan,
then finished the scoring on a two-run home run in the ninth by
Christian Muscarello.
Trinity and Chapman will continue the season-opening three-game
series tomorrow evening at Hart Park. Friday's game will
begin at 6:00 p.m., with Saturday's first pitch is set for noon.
