Box Score Orange, California - Trinity's baseball
team improved to 2-0 this season with another solid pitching
performance in a 7-1 victory over Chapman University on Friday
evening.
The Tigers gave up just one run on five hits to Chapman in
tonight's game, though the run did snap a streak of 17 innings
without allowing an earned run to start the year. Trinity
out-hit Chapman 11-5 in the game.
Tanner Barron (1-0) took the mound just one night after Ryan
Lucero's season-opening gem for the Tigers in last night's win.
Barron was up to the challenge, though, striking out 13
batters through eight shutout innings, and allowing just four hits.
Christian Muscarello and Pat Hirschberg both went 2-3 with a run
scored in the game. Hirschberg drove in two runs, while
Muscarello picked up one RBI for the Tigers. Also collecting
two hits each were Will Donnan and Kelly Woodruff. Donnan
also had two RBI and two runs scored - including a two-run home run
in the second inning.
Trinity's offense spotted Barron to a 1-0 lead after the first
inning, then after Donnan made it 3-0, the Tigers got two more runs
home on a single by Hirschberg. Trinity added another run in
the fourth, then Jonathan Hall capped the scoring with a solo homer
in the seventh. Chapman finally got on the board in the
ninth, marking the second straight game that the Panthers avoided
the shutout in the late innings.
Trinity and Chapman will conclude the three-game series with an
afternoon game on Saturday. The Tigers open up the home
portion of the schedule against Schreiner on Tuesday, February 12.
