Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team
opened up the home portion of its schedule with a 14-1 win over
Schreiner University on Tuesday night.
Trinity, which was ranked 11th in the D3Baseball.com preseason
poll, improved its overall record to 4-1 this season. The
Tigers spread out 20 hits over eight innings offensively, posting
the team's top scoring game of the young season.
The Tigers opened the game with a four-run first inning to take
command early, then added two more runs in the second to take a 6-1
lead. Trinity added two runs in both the fourth and fifth
innings, then finished off the scoring with a four-run seventh.
Former Major League Baseball player Jerry Grote threw out the
ceremonial first pitch of the game. Grote was inducted to the
Trinity Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011, and was a member of the
World Series Champion New York Mets in 1969.
Three different Tiger players had three hits each in the game,
led by Kevin Francke's 3-4 performance. Francke added three
runs and three RBI to his night, highlighted by his first home run
of the season. Will Donnan was also 3-4 with one RBI, while
Kelly Woodruff was 3-3 with two runs scored in the game.
Jonathan Hall and Christian Muscarello were both 2-5 in the
game, while Jeremy Wolf was 2-4 with a run scored. Hall had
three runs and two RBI to go with his two hits, while Muscarello
added two runs and one RBI. Carter McEachern came off the
bench and cracked two hits and scored a run.
Ryan Lucero (2-0) earned the win with five innings of work,
giving up a run on five hits, and striking out five batters.
Kyle Bogese struck out six batters through three hitless
innings of relief, and William Wells picked up a strikeout as he
finished off the final inning for Trinity.
Trinity will be back on the field on Saturday, hosting
Huston-Tillotson University in a doubleheader that will begin at
1:00 p.m.
