Box Score Belton, Texas - The Tiger baseball team
earned a 12-6 win in 10 innings over the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday evening, improving the team's winning
streak to four games.
Trinity improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Crusaders fell
to 2-3 overall. The Tigers trailed by two runs early in the
game, then fell behind 6-3 after a three-run seventh inning by the
home team.
In the eighth, Trinity tied the game with three runs in the top
of the inning, drawing a pair of walks with the bases loaded after
an RBI single. Neither team scored in the ninth, leading to
the big 10th inning by the Tigers. Trinity coupled four hits
with two UMHB errors to bring home six runs in the top of the
inning to win it.
The Crusaders opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the
first inning to take control, then answered a Trinity run in the
second with another score in the third to make it 3-1. The
Tigers chipped away with runs in the fourth and sixth innings to
tie the game before UMHB jumped back in front in the seventh.
After a leadoff double by Kevin Francke in the 10th inning, UMHB
made back-to-back errors on Trinity sacrifice attempts to bring
home a pair of runs. The Tigers then continued the inning
with three more hits - including an RBI double by Ryan Schweers.
Francke, who was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Hitter of the Week today, went 2-6 with two runs and one
RBI. Will Donnan was also 2-6 with one RBI and a pair of runs
scored, as well as swiping two of Trinity's seven steals in the
game.
Kevin Clements was 2-3 with a run scored, while Kelly Woodruff
drove in a pair of runs. Jeremy Wolf scored twice for the
Tigers, and Connor Moore also picked up a pair of hits.
Ryan Lucero gave up three runs on six hits through the first six
innings, striking out four batters. Michael Bentz (1-0)
picked up the win, allowing just one run on three hits over the
final 3.2 innings, and recording three strikeouts.
Trinity returns home this weekend, opening up SCAC play with a
three-game series against Austin College on Saturday and
Sunday.
