Trinity Baseball Rallies to Beat Mary Hardin-Baylor in Extra Innings

Box Score

Belton, Texas - The Tiger baseball team earned a 12-6 win in 10 innings over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday evening, improving the team's winning streak to four games.

Trinity improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Crusaders fell to 2-3 overall.  The Tigers trailed by two runs early in the game, then fell behind 6-3 after a three-run seventh inning by the home team.

In the eighth, Trinity tied the game with three runs in the top of the inning, drawing a pair of walks with the bases loaded after an RBI single.  Neither team scored in the ninth, leading to the big 10th inning by the Tigers.  Trinity coupled four hits with two UMHB errors to bring home six runs in the top of the inning to win it.

The Crusaders opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control, then answered a Trinity run in the second with another score in the third to make it 3-1.  The Tigers chipped away with runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the game before UMHB jumped back in front in the seventh.

After a leadoff double by Kevin Francke in the 10th inning, UMHB made back-to-back errors on Trinity sacrifice attempts to bring home a pair of runs.  The Tigers then continued the inning with three more hits - including an RBI double by Ryan Schweers.

Francke, who was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week today, went 2-6 with two runs and one RBI.  Will Donnan was also 2-6 with one RBI and a pair of runs scored, as well as swiping two of Trinity's seven steals in the game.

Kevin Clements was 2-3 with a run scored, while Kelly Woodruff drove in a pair of runs.  Jeremy Wolf scored twice for the Tigers, and Connor Moore also picked up a pair of hits.

Ryan Lucero gave up three runs on six hits through the first six innings, striking out four batters.  Michael Bentz (1-0) picked up the win, allowing just one run on three hits over the final 3.2 innings, and recording three strikeouts.

Trinity returns home this weekend, opening up SCAC play with a three-game series against Austin College on Saturday and Sunday.
