Box Score Shreveport, Louisiana - Trinity's baseball
team was tripped up in a 6-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference loss to Centenary College on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers lost two out of three games in the road series,
marking the team's first losing streak of the season. Trinity
came into the weekend ranked sixth nationally, and began the series
with the team's ninth consecutive victory.
Trinity falls to 15-4 this season with today's loss, which came
despite the Tigers taking a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
In the bottom of the third, Centenary scratched across a run
to break up the shutout. The Gents then piled on four more
runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead over the Tigers.
In the top of the seventh, Trinity rallied to tie the game with
RBI singles from Kevin Clements and Christian Muscarello.
Centenary then added on an unearned run in the bottom of the
inning, taking advantage of one of two Tiger errors to pull ahead
for good. The Gents scored three total unearned runs on the
day.
Trinity had 11 hits in the game, holding Centenary to just five
hits. Three Tiger pitchers combined to issue six walks and
hit two batters, though, and the Gents were able to
capitalize.
Tanner Barron gave up four runs on three hits through three
innings, while Michael Walker (1-2) was charged with the loss in
relief. Walker struck out five in four innings of work, and
allowed two runs on two hits - though both runs were unearned.
Muscarello went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Will Donnan
collected two hits and two RBI to lead the Tiger offense. Pat
Hirschberg also went 2-4 for Trinity.
The Tigers return home on Tuesday night, hosting Texas Lutheran
University in a non-conference matchup. Trinity resumes SCAC
play with another three-game road series at the University of
Dallas next weekend.
