Redlands, California - Trinity's men's
tennis team, ranked eighth in the nation, earned a 7-2 win over
seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Monday
afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 7-8 with the win, snapping a two-match
losing streak on the California road trip that began at the end of
last week. Trinity swept the doubles matches to open the day,
and the momentum carried over into singles play, and the Tigers
handed Case Western (12-1) its first loss of the season.
Trinity won three tightly-contested doubles matches, led by
Erick DelaFuente and Jordan Mayer winning 8-5 at the top position.
Nicolas Moreno teamed with Charlie Curtis for an 8-6 win at
No. 2, while Greg Haugen and Connor Dunn took a narrow 9-7 win at
the third slot.
Mayer, Moreno, and Haugen all also grabbed singles wins for the
Tigers. Also winning in singles was No. 1 Aaron Skinner (6-4,
6-2), and the Tigers took four of six matches. Moreno rallied
with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-5 win in one of two three-set matches on the
day.
Trinity finishes off its road trip tomorrow against Carnegie
Mellon University in Claremont, California. The match is
scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., and will be the final match for
the Tigers until March 20.
