Box Score Irving, Texas - The seventh-ranked Trinity Tigers baseball team finished off a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a 7-5 victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity won its fourth straight game to improve to 19-4 and 9-3 in conference play. Dallas dropped to 11-14 and 6-6 in the SCAC. The two teams will meet again April 13-14 in San Antonio.
The Crusaders took an early lead with with a run in the first inning, but the Tigers put up a run in each of the second and third innings to take the lead. Trinity increased the lead to 4-1 with two runs in the fourth, highlighted by RBI doubles from
Chris Bianchi and
Austin Singer. Dallas added two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth, to cut the lead to just one (4-3).
In the fifth, the Tigers chalked up two more runs, courtesy of RBI triples from
Jeremy Wolf and
Kevin Clements. The Crusaders kept in the contest with a run in the sixth inning, and one in the seventh, but Wolf put the icing on the cake with a SAC fly to center field in the top of the ninth stanza.
Michael Bentz retired the Crusaders in the bottom of the inning to capture the victory. Bentz, who hurled the final three innings, improved to 4-0 on the season. He yielded only one walk during his time on the mound, and struck two batters.
Wolf batted 3-4 with three RBI and scored one run. Bianchi went 2-4, scoring once and driving home another run. Trinity's
Jonathan Hall crossed the plate three times, along with stealing two bases.
Trinity returns home Tuesday to take on the University Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:00 p.m., starting a nine-game home stand.
