Box Score San Antonio - The third-ranked Tiger
baseball team earned an 8-2 victory over the Concordia (TX)
University Tornados on Tuesday night.
Trinity improved its record to 24-5 this season, while Concordia
dipped below .500 with a 14-15 overall record. The Tigers
took advantage of three Concordia errors to score four unearned
runs.
Zack Speer improved his record to 4-0 this season, giving up two
runs (one earned) on five hits through 6.2 innings. He did
walk three batters, but recorded six strikeouts. Troy Ward
allowed one hit over 1.2 innings in relief, striking out four, and
Theodore Turner finished off the final two outs for the Tiger
pitching staff.
Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning,
highlighted by a two-out single by Kevin Clements that drove in a
pair of runs. Concordia answered with a run of its own in the
next half-inning, but the visitors would get no closer the rest of
the game. The Tigers added two runs in the sixth and eighth
to pull away in the end.
Kelly Woodruff led the Trinity offense with three runs scored,
going 2-4 with two doubles and one RBI in the game. Clements
also picked up a pair of hits, while Jeremy Wolf scored twice.
Connor Moore went 1-3 with one RBI and two stolen bases.
Trinity resumes Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on
Thursday evening, hosting Centenary College in the first of a
two-game series. The Tigers and Gents open at 6:00 p.m. on
Thursday, then finish the week with a Friday game that will start
at 11:30 a.m.
