Box Score San Antonio - The sixth-ranked Tiger
baseball team earned its eighth consecutive victory by beating
DeSales University 8-5 on Thursday night.
Trinity improved to 14-2 on the season with the win, while
DeSales fell to 2-4 in 2013. The Tigers scored three runs in
the seventh and eighth innings to break a 5-5 tie and secure the
victory.
In the first inning, Trinity took a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring
single by Christian Muscarello, but DeSales answered quickly with a
run in the following frame. The Bulldogs scored on a wild
pitch after loading the bases with no outs.
The teams then traded runs again in the next two half-innings,
keeping the game tied 2-2. In the fifth, it looked as if
Trinity had taken control with a three-run inning, but DeSales
rallied once again for three runs of its own to make it 5-5.
Nick Griffith then drove in Pat Hirschberg for the eventual
game-winning run in the seventh, following Hirschberg's leadoff
double off the wall in left field. Hirschberg finished 3-5 in
the game, scoring two runs. Griffith was 1-3 for the Tigers
with one run and one RBI.
Ryan Schweers picked up a pair of hits to go with two runs
scored, while Kelly Woodruff was 1-2 with one RBI. Muscarello
also picked up a pair of hits, going 2-5 in the game.
Matthew Abrahams gave up just two hits in 2.1 innings on the
mound for the Tigers, earning the win to improve to 1-0 this
season. Theodore Turner came on in relief of Abrahams in the
ninth, striking out the side to earn the save.
Trinity will hit the road this weekend, resuming Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Centenary College in
Shreveport, Louisiana. The Tigers and Gents will play a
three-game weekend series on Saturday and Sunday.
