Tiger Baseball Defeats Southwestern to Open SCAC Road Series

Box Score

Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's baseball team opened up a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series on the road with a lopsided 13-1 win over Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 31-7 this season with the win, including a 14-5 mark in conference play.  Trinity has already clinched the #2 seed in next weekend's SCAC Championships Tournament, hosted by Southwestern.

Trinity used three multi-run innings to win for the fourth time in four meetings so far with the Pirates this year.  The Tigers also took advantage of four Southwestern errros, scoring six unearned runs.

Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, and after Trinity scored to take a 1-0 lead in the second, Southwestern answered back quickly with a run in the bottom of the inning.  That was the last time the game was close, as the Tigers plated five runs in the third to pull ahead for good.  Trinity added three more runs in the fourth, and a four-spot in the sixth to finish the scoring.

Jonathan Hall led the Tiger offense with a 3-4 performance at the plate, scoring two runs and driving home five RBI.  Kevin Francke and Kelly Woodruff were both 2-3 for Trinity, and Woodruff also had two RBI.

Jeremy Wolf finished with two hits and two runs, while Pat Hirschberg scored three times to lead all players.  Christian Muscarello and Will Donnan scored two runs each in the game.

Ryan Lucero (8-1) earned the victory, striking out seven batters through five innings.  He allowed one run on five hits, with the one run being unearned.  Theodore Turner gave up just one hit over the final two innings, striking out two batters.

Trinity and Southwestern conclude their regular season series with a game tomorrow afternoon.  The Tigers return home on Monday, April 22, hosting Hardin-Simmons University in the regular season finale.
