Box Score Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team opened up a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
series on the road with a lopsided 13-1 win over Southwestern
University on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 31-7 this season with the win, including
a 14-5 mark in conference play. Trinity has already clinched
the #2 seed in next weekend's SCAC Championships Tournament, hosted
by Southwestern.
Trinity used three multi-run innings to win for the fourth time
in four meetings so far with the Pirates this year. The
Tigers also took advantage of four Southwestern errros, scoring six
unearned runs.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, and after Trinity
scored to take a 1-0 lead in the second, Southwestern answered back
quickly with a run in the bottom of the inning. That was the
last time the game was close, as the Tigers plated five runs in the
third to pull ahead for good. Trinity added three more runs
in the fourth, and a four-spot in the sixth to finish the
scoring.
Jonathan Hall led the Tiger offense with a 3-4 performance at
the plate, scoring two runs and driving home five RBI. Kevin
Francke and Kelly Woodruff were both 2-3 for Trinity, and Woodruff
also had two RBI.
Jeremy Wolf finished with two hits and two runs, while Pat
Hirschberg scored three times to lead all players. Christian
Muscarello and Will Donnan scored two runs each in the game.
Ryan Lucero (8-1) earned the victory, striking out seven batters
through five innings. He allowed one run on five hits, with
the one run being unearned. Theodore Turner gave up just one
hit over the final two innings, striking out two batters.
Trinity and Southwestern conclude their regular season series
with a game tomorrow afternoon. The Tigers return home on
Monday, April 22, hosting Hardin-Simmons University in the regular
season finale.
