Baseball Opens Weekend Series With Road Win Over Austin

Box Score

Sherman, Texas - The Tiger baseball team opened up a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a 16-6 road win at Austin College on Saturday afternoon.

Ninth-ranked Trinity improves to 25-7 with the victory, as well as 10-5 in conference play.  The Tigers also snap a two-game losing streak with the team's largest run output of the year.  Trinity hammered out 16 hits to score 16 runs, while Austin College also had five errors that led to six of the runs being unearned.

Neither team scored in the first two innings of the game, picking up just one hit each.  In the third, the Tigers got on the board with four runs on four hits, then followed that with a seven-run fourth to take an 11-0 lead.

Austin's offense came to life in the fifth, scoring five runs to cut the Tiger lead nearly in half.  In the sixth, both teams scored a run each, then Trinity set up a run-rule with four more runs in the top of the seventh.

Ryan Lucero (6-1) earned the win in his ninth start for the Tigers, giving up five runs on seven hits, and striking out four batters.  Tanner Barron and Franklin Bay finished off the game, yielding just one run on three hits over the final two innings.

Connor Moore led six Tiger players with multi-hit games, going 3-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.  Jeremy Wolf came off the bench to knock in three runs, while Pat Hirschberg also had three RBI.  Both players had a pair of hits, and Hirschberg also scored twice after reaching base four times in the game.

Ryan Schweers was 2-3 with a run scored before giving way to Wolf late in the game, while Will Donnan and Kevin Clements also had two hits each.  Donnan and Clements both scored twice, while Clements also had a pair of RBI.

Kevin Francke, Christian Muscarello, and Kelly Woodruff each scored two runs, and Muscarello reached base three times in the game.

Trinity and Austin will conclude the regular season series with a single game tomorrow afternoon.  The Tigers clinched the series with the win, after also taking two out of three games in San Antonio earlier this year.
