Box Score 2 San Antonio - The sixth-ranked Tiger
baseball team won a pair of games on Sunday afternoon, beating
Chapman University 5-1, and defeating 14th-ranked University of
Texas-Tyler 5-3.
Trinity remained undefeated with a 3-0 record to start the
season, after also defeating Chapman 7-4 in yesterday's season
opener.
The Tigers fell behind 2-0 after the first inning of the game
against the Patriots, then also trailed 3-1 after three innings of
play. Trinity rallied with a pair of two-run innings in the
fourth and fifth, taking the lead for good.
Earlier in the day against Chapman, Trinity scored single runs
in the second and third to open the scoring, then added two more in
the fifth. Chapman finally got on the board in the seventh,
but it wasn't enough to get back into the game.
Zack Speer (1-0) allowed one run over 6.1 innings, striking out
three batters, and scattering eight hits. Teddy Turner struck
out three batters over the final 2.2 innings to earn his first save
of the season. Turner then came out in the ninth to earn his
second save of the day, inducing a game-ending double play to allow
the Tigers to escape a bases-loaded jam in a two-run game.
Mike Walker (1-0) secured the win, striking out three batters,
and yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits through five-plus
innings of work.
Pat Hirschberg hit his second home run in as many days, knocking
a solo shot over the wall in the second inning against UT-Tyler.
Hirschberg was 3-4 with a pair of runs in the second game, as
well as swiping three stolen bases.
Chris Bianchi also hit a solo homer in the game, leading off the
fifth inning with his first of the season.
In game one, Christian Muscarello and Jeremy Wolf drove in two
runs each to lead the Tiger offense. Muscarello was 3-4 in
the game, while Carter McEachern also had a pair of hits to go with
two runs scored.
Trinity will hit the road next weekend, facing Millsaps College
in a three-game weekend series in Jackson, Mississippi. The
teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by the final
game on Sunday afternoon.
