Box Score San Antonio - The second-ranked Trinity
baseball team opened a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference weekend series with a 10-0 shutout win over Southwestern
University on Friday night.
The Tigers opened the game with runs in the first and second
innings, then pulled away for good with a five-run sixth inning
that led to the run-rule victory. Trinity scored once more in
the seventh and two more times in the eighth to get the 10-run lead
- ending the game with two outs in the inning.
Trinity won its 12th straight game and improved
to 16-1 and 4-0 SCAC in the process. Southwestern dropped to 4-16
and 1-3 SCAC.
Christian Muscarello batted 2-3 with two RBI and
scored one run. He also moved up to seventh in school history with
217 career hits. Nick Jewett scored two runs for the Tigers, as did
Austin Singer.
Tiger left-hander Michael Walker (3-0) pitched
for seven innings and allowed only two hits, while striking out
five batters. Trent Rape combined with Walker for the shutout,
pitching around a one-out double in the eighth.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday, with
the opener scheduled for an hour later at 2:00 p.m., because of
imminent bad weather in the morning.
