Box Score 2 San Antonio - The second-ranked Tiger
baseball team finished off a weekend series in Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference play by sweeping a doubleheader from
Southwestern University on Saturday.
Trinity rallied for a 10-5 win in the seven-inning opening game,
sparked by a four-run fourth inning to put the Tigers on top for
good. Trinity led from the beginning of game two, starting
with a three-run first, and eventually pulling ahead by a 5-0 score
after three innings. Southwestern got runs in the fourth and
sixth, but could get no closer, and Trinity answered with two more
runs in the late innings.
In game one, Southwestern took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the
second inning, then following Trinity's two-run second, the Pirates
answered again with a three-run third to take a 5-3 advantage.
The Tigers cut the lead in half with a run in the third, then
posted the four-run fourth to take command of the game.
Pat Hirschberg was 4-4 with three runs and three RBI in the
opening game, then went 1-2 with three more runs in the second.
He hit solo homers in both games, improving his season total
to five round-trippers.
Connor Moore picked up two hits and two runs in the opening
game, while Drew Butler was 2-4 with two runs scored. Jeremy
Wolf was 2-3 in both games, tallying three total RBI in the
doubleheader.
Zack Speer lasted three innings as the Tiger starter in game
one, and Carter Lauck (1-1) picked up the win with three innings in
relief. Lauck allowed just one hit and one walk over three
shutout innings.
Butler also hit a home run in game two, picking up two RBI, and
Christian Muscarello scored twice.
Ryan Gray gave up just one unearned run on four hits through
four-plus innings, but it was Teddy Turner (3-0) who earned the win
in relief. Turner gave up a run on one hit in 3.2 innings of
work.
Trinity continues its home stand with a non-conference game
against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, beginning
at 7:00 p.m.
