#2 Trinity Baseball Sweeps SCAC Doubleheader From Southwestern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

San Antonio - The second-ranked Tiger baseball team finished off a weekend series in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play by sweeping a doubleheader from Southwestern University on Saturday.

Trinity rallied for a 10-5 win in the seven-inning opening game, sparked by a four-run fourth inning to put the Tigers on top for good.  Trinity led from the beginning of game two, starting with a three-run first, and eventually pulling ahead by a 5-0 score after three innings.  Southwestern got runs in the fourth and sixth, but could get no closer, and Trinity answered with two more runs in the late innings.

In game one, Southwestern took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the second inning, then following Trinity's two-run second, the Pirates answered again with a three-run third to take a 5-3 advantage.  The Tigers cut the lead in half with a run in the third, then posted the four-run fourth to take command of the game.

Pat Hirschberg was 4-4 with three runs and three RBI in the opening game, then went 1-2 with three more runs in the second.  He hit solo homers in both games, improving his season total to five round-trippers.

Connor Moore picked up two hits and two runs in the opening game, while Drew Butler was 2-4 with two runs scored.  Jeremy Wolf was 2-3 in both games, tallying three total RBI in the doubleheader.

Zack Speer lasted three innings as the Tiger starter in game one, and Carter Lauck (1-1) picked up the win with three innings in relief.  Lauck allowed just one hit and one walk over three shutout innings.

Butler also hit a home run in game two, picking up two RBI, and Christian Muscarello scored twice.

Ryan Gray gave up just one unearned run on four hits through four-plus innings, but it was Teddy Turner (3-0) who earned the win in relief.  Turner gave up a run on one hit in 3.2 innings of work.

Trinity continues its home stand with a non-conference game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
