baseball team staged an eighth-inning rally to edge the University
of Dallas 5-4 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on
Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (21-2, 8-1 SCAC) won the weekend series 2-1,
taking Saturday's opening game 8-2, but losing the second in
a 9-8, 10-inning thriller. Dallas now stands at 12-14 and 2-7 in
conference play.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning,
but the Crusaders took advantage of three Tiger errors in the
second inning to produce three runs and take a 3-2 lead.
Dallas added an insurance run in the seventh to make it 4-2,
setting up the Tiger rally.
Trinity began with a run in the bottom of the seventh
to cut the lead in half, then pulled in front for the first time
since the opening frame with a two-run eighth. Pinch-hitter
Trent Rape cracked a run-scoring single to score Pat Hirschberg,
then two batters later, Connor Moore drove in the winning run with
a sacrifice fly to center.

pitching a total of 7.1 innings, and giving up one unearned run on
four hits. He also struck out four batters without yielding a
walk.
Hirschberg hit 2-3 at the plate, and stole two
bases, while Jeremy Wolf also went 2-3 in the match-up. Wolf
also drew a walk in the eighth to set up the winning run, which was
scored by pinch-runner Brody Fehmel.
The Tigers wrapped up a seven-game homestand and
will play on the road over the next eight games. Coming up is a
Tuesday game in Austin, Texas, against No. 21 Concordia University
at 7:00 p.m.
