Box Score Abilene, Texas - Trinity's 11th-ranked
baseball team started with a six-run first inning on its way to a
13-6 win at Hardin-Simmons University on Tuesday.
The Tigers snapped their four-game losing streak in the process,
which marked the team's longest streak since dropping six straight
games in 2007. Trinity improves to 22-6 on the season, while
the Cowboys fell to 10-13 overall.
In the first inning, Trinity hammered out six runs on seven
hits, highlighted by Pat Hirschberg's three-run home run. The
Tigers added another run in the second, then two more in the sixth
before Hardin-Simmons got on the board.
In the sixth, HSU finally put something together against Tiger
starter Kyle Bogese. The inning started off with a single,
which was followed by a two-base error. Bogese then hit the
next two batters before being relieved. Hardin-Simmons then
drew two bases-loaded walks and another hit batter to make it 9-3.
The Cowboys added three more runs before the inning was done,
cutting the lead to 9-6.
Bogese (5-1) still earned the win, allowing three runs (only two
earned) over five-plus innings of work. He also recorded his
100th career strikeout, picking up four in today's game.
Hirschberg finished 2-4 with two runs and four RBI in the game,
collecting his sixth homer of the season. Nick Jewett also
went deep (his second), going 3-5 at the plate, scoring twice, and
drive in four more runs.
Connor Moore enjoyed a four-hit game, going 4-5 with two runs
scored, while Carter McEachern and Christian Muscarello scored two
runs each. Jeremy Wolf also added two runs scored with a 2-5
afternoon, while Chris Bianchi picked up three hits. Both of
Wolf's hits were doubles, bringing his season total to a team-high
10.
Trinity hammered out 17 total hits in the game, which is just
one short of a season-high. The Tigers will continue Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend, facing off
against Schreiner University in a three-game series.
