Box Score Shreveport, Louisiana - Trinity's
third-ranked baseball team opened up a three-game Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a 12-inning 4-2 win over
Centenary College on Friday night.
The Tigers scored two unearned runs with two outs in the top of
the 12th to earn the victory over Centenary. Trinity improved
to 29-6 on the season and 15-1 in conference play. Centenary
fell to 17-18 and 10-6 in the SCAC. Trinity is now 4-0
against the Gents this season.
The pivotal 12th inning began with a walk, but was followed with
a double play after a bunt. Another walk was followed by a
strikeout, but an error allowed the batter to reach base to keep
the inning alive. A passed ball, walk, and another passed
ball allowed both Tiger runs to score, and Centenary was retired in
order in the bottom of the inning.
Trinity opened the scoring with runs in the second and fifth
innings, but the Gents tied the game with two runs in the bottom of
the sixth.
Teddy Turner (3-2) earned the win for the Tigers, pitching 3.1
scoreless innings of relief without allowing a hit. Kevin
Flores threw 3.0 innings as well, giving up just one hit.
Ryan Gray started the game, going 5.2 innings and striking
out six batters. Gray gave up two runs, but one of those was
unearned.
Nick Jewett picked up three of Trinity's six total hits, going
3-5 with one RBI. Pat Hirschberg scored a pair of runs in the
Tiger win, and both he and Christian Muscarello drew a pair of
walks. Muscarello also hit his second homer of the season
with two outs in the fifth.
Trinity and Centenary will finish off the weekend series with a
doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. The opening game will be
seven innings, and is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
