Tiger Baseball Scores Extra-Inning Win Over Centenary

Box Score

Shreveport, Louisiana - Trinity's third-ranked baseball team opened up a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a 12-inning 4-2 win over Centenary College on Friday night.

The Tigers scored two unearned runs with two outs in the top of the 12th to earn the victory over Centenary.  Trinity improved to 29-6 on the season and 15-1 in conference play.  Centenary fell to 17-18 and 10-6 in the SCAC.  Trinity is now 4-0 against the Gents this season.

The pivotal 12th inning began with a walk, but was followed with a double play after a bunt.  Another walk was followed by a strikeout, but an error allowed the batter to reach base to keep the inning alive.  A passed ball, walk, and another passed ball allowed both Tiger runs to score, and Centenary was retired in order in the bottom of the inning.

Trinity opened the scoring with runs in the second and fifth innings, but the Gents tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Teddy Turner (3-2) earned the win for the Tigers, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings of relief without allowing a hit.  Kevin Flores threw 3.0 innings as well, giving up just one hit.  Ryan Gray started the game, going 5.2 innings and striking out six batters.  Gray gave up two runs, but one of those was unearned.

Nick Jewett picked up three of Trinity's six total hits, going 3-5 with one RBI.  Pat Hirschberg scored a pair of runs in the Tiger win, and both he and Christian Muscarello drew a pair of walks.  Muscarello also hit his second homer of the season with two outs in the fifth.

Trinity and Centenary will finish off the weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.  The opening game will be seven innings, and is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
