Box Score San Antonio - Chris Madden of
Coppell, (TX) (Coppell High School), who will become a member of
the Trinity Tigers men's soccer team this upcoming season,
has received high honors prior to the start of his collegiate
career.
The forward has been named a 2014
Winter-Spring High School All-American by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America. Madden has also been selected as
the 2013-14 Gatorade Texas Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The
award is presented in collaboration with USA Today High School
Sports.
The Gatorade Texas Boys Soccer Player of the
Year accolade recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high
standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character
demonstrated on an off the soccer field.
Madden fits the bill athletically and
academically for the honors from both organizations
The dynamic Madden scored 10 goals and chalked
up 13 assists last season, leading the Coppell Cowboys to the Class
5A state championship game. A two-time District 5-5A Most Valuable
Player, Madden was the 2013 Class 5A State Final MVP after Coppell
won the state championship. A two-time Class 5A First Team
All-State honoree, Madden finished his high school career with 35
goals and 28 assists.
In the classroom, Madden maintained an
“A” average. A peer tutor at his high school, Madden
volunteered as a youth mentor, a soccer coach, and referee as part
of the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas drives with his church
youth group.
The Trinity Tigers men's soccer team is
led by Head Coach Paul McGinlay, who enters his 24th year at the
helm. Since joining the Trinity staff in 1991, Coach McGinlay has
amassed a record of 390-66-30 (.833). Coach McGinlay is the
winningest active soccer coach by percentage, in all NCAA
Divisions. He also stands at No. 5 in the all-time winning
percentage column among the entire list of NCAA soccer
coaches.
Coach McGinley guided the Tigers to the 2003
NCAA Division III National Championship. It marked the first NCAA
title - in any division - for a soccer team in the state of
Texas..
In 2013, the Trinity team advanced to the NCAA
quarterfinals for the eighth time, finishing the season with a
21-3-1 record. It marked Trinity's 12th straight appearance
in the NCAA Tournament, and 17th of the previous 18 seasons.
The Tigers were ranked fourth in the nation by D3soccer.com, and
sixth by the NSCAA. Trinity also won its 16th Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Championship.
Coach McGinlay was elected the NSCAA West Region
Coach of the Year for the eighth time.
Seven starters will lead the 2014 edition of the Tigers,
who return to campus later this month. Trinity opens the campaign
at home, taking on Washington University in St. Louis on August 29
at the Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.
