baseball suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday
afternoon, as Louisiana College broke a tie late to steal a 7-6
victory at the University of Texas-Tyler.
Trinity dropped to 4-1 overall this season, while Louisiana
College evened its record at 2-2 with the upset victory. The
Tigers did rally from a 6-1 deficit to tie the game in the seventh,
but the Wildcats squeaked a run across in the top of the eighth
that proved to be the difference.
Louisiana opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second,
then following a Tiger run in the bottom of the inning, added two
more runs in the third to make it 4-1. After the Wildcats
pushed it to 6-1 in the fifth, Trinity began its comeback.
The rally started with a single run in the fifth, then hammered
out three more in the sixth to make it a one-run game. After
Drew Butler singled home the game-tying run in the seventh,
Louisiana scored on an infield single in the top half for the
eventual game-winning RBI.
Jose Santos led the Tiger offense with a 3-4 performance at the
plate, picking up two runs and three RBI in the game. Butler
and Jeremy Wolf had two hits each, while Austin Singer hit his
