Box Score San Antonio - The
18th-ranked Trinity baseball team took an early lead and never
looked back in a 9-2 decision over Cardinal Stritch (WI) University
on Sunday afternoon.
Today's game was originally scheduled for last
night, but weather forced the teams to postpone until this
afternoon. The Tigers improved to 8-2 with the win, while the
Wolves fell to 0-3.
Lefthander Ryan Gray (1-0) took the victory in
his first start and fourth appearance of the campaign. Gray hurled
an excellent game, throwing 5.1 innings of no-hit ball to start the
day. He finished by allowing two runs on three hits, walking
one, and fanning seven Cardinal Stritch batters.
Tiger relievers Chris Tate, Nick Griffith, and
Matt Tindall allowed just one hit over the final three innings.
Tindall put a big exclamation point on the win by striking
out the side in the ninth, squashing any hopes for a late-inning
rally.
The bat of Jose Santos continued to be hot, as
he hit 2-3 with one RBI, and a triple. The speedy Santos also
scored three runs and stole two bases. His triple came in the
bottom of the second inning, as Trinity got on the board for the
first of two runs. Santos is hitting .517 (15-29) this
season.
Andrew Waters also went 2-3 with one RBI and one
run scored. Liam Rihela entered the game late in game, driving in a
pair of runs in a four-run eighth for the Tigers.
Trinity scored twice in the second and in the
third, then made it 5-0 with another run in the fourth.
Stritch cut into the lead with two runs on three hits in the
sixth, but the Wolves weren't able to add any more runs against the
stout Tiger relievers.
Trinity returns to action Thursday by hosting
DeSales (PA) University at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will then
travel to Kerrville, Texas, for a three-game non-conference series
against Schreiner University.
