Box Score Seguin, Texas - The sixth-ranked Trinity baseball team lost the last of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series by the final score of 10-2 at Texas Lutheran University on Monday night.
The Tigers fell to 15-6 on the season, as well as 3-3 in conference play. Texas Lutheran improves to 4-2 in SCAC action, as well as 15-8 overall. The Bulldogs blanked Trinity 6-0 in the series opener yesterday, but the Tigers split the doubleheader with a 12-2 run-rule victory.
The Bulldogs opened tonight's scoring with a single run in the first, giving Texas Lutheran a run in the first inning in each game of the series. Trinity tied the game with a run in the third, but Texas Lutheran scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take command for good. The Tigers answered with a run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs tallied three more runs in the fifth to extend the lead. The home team then tacked on a final run with a home run in the eighth.
Defensively, Trinity struggled with a total of five errors in the game, leading to five unearned runs in the first three innings. Zack Speer was saddled with his first loss of the season, falling to 4-1 after giving up six runs on four hits over three innings, though just one of those runs was earned.
Scott Walters, Connor Moore, and Colin Serkowski picked up two hits each, accounting for most of the team's nine hits in the loss. Moore and Jose Santos drove in the only runs of the game for the Tigers, which were scored by Jeremy Wolf and Andrew Waters.
Trinity will be right back on the field tomorrow evening, hosting Hardin-Simmons University at 5:00 p.m. The Tigers are back on the road for three more SCAC games this weekend, taking on SCAC leader Southwestern University on Friday and Saturday.
