Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team exploded for 13 runs in the first two innings on its way to a 19-4 win over Hardin-Simmons University on Tuesday evening.
The number of runs was a season-high for the sixth-ranked Tigers, who improved to 16-6. Hardin-Simmons dropped to 6-11 after the loss.
The three-run first inning was highlighted by a home run from Jeremy Wolf, who cracked his first round-tripper of the season. Trinity's second inning immediately put the game out of reach, as the Tigers scored 10 runs on nine hits. Nick Jewett plastered a grand slam for his second homer of the campaign.
Trinity scored six more runs over the rest of the game, including two each in the fifth and seventh innings. Each starting Tiger player who had an at-bat accounted for at least one hit in the game. Trinity finished up with a season-best 21 hits.
Jewett batted 2-2 with four RBI, one walk, and three runs scored. Connor Moore hit 3-4 with two RBI and two runs, while Jose Santos went 3-5 with two RBI and two runs. Wolf batted 2-2 with two runs, while drawing three walks. Beau Attayah also crossed the plate three times in the game.
Ryan Gray (3-0) took the victory with a solid outing, allowing one earned run on four hits, fanning 10 Cowboys batters over five innings, and allowing just one walk. Taylor Hoesen, Trent Rape, Nick Griffith, and Matt Tindall, finished the contest. Trinity pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts in the game.
The Tigers resume their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule Friday and Saturday with a three-game series at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The defending SCAC champion Tigers stand at 3-3 in conference play. Trinity heads to Belton, Texas, for a Tuesday, March 31 game at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Tigers return home Wednesday, April 1, to host 20th-ranked Concordia University at 7:00 p.m.
