Four Tiger Pitchers Combine for No-Hitter in Trinity Win Over Schreiner

Box Score

Kerrville, Texas - Trinity finished off a weekend series at Schreiner University with a 10-2 win on Sunday afternoon, highlighted by four Tiger pitchers combining for a no-hitter.

The game marked Trinity's first no-hitter since 2006, when Brian Oates and Chuck Huggins both achieved the rare feat in the same season.  This is the ninth no-hitter in Tiger baseball history, as well as the second combined no-hitter.

Ryan Gray, Chris Tate, Troy Nelson, and Taylor Hoesen combined for the honor, and the quartet of Tiger hurlers combined for 15 strikeouts in the game.  Gray was the starter, improving his season record to 2-0 with 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.  Gray did issue eight walks in the game, as well as allowing both runs - though only of those was earned.

Tate finished off the seventh for the Tigers, striking out two batters and walking two others.  Nelson also had two walks and two strikeouts in the eighth, then Hoesen finished off the Mountaineers in order in the ninth to seal it.

Trinity opened the scoring with an unearned run in the first, then Jose Santos hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run third inning to break open the game.  The Tigers tallied two more scores in the sixth, then three in the seventh to go ahead 10-0 heading into the seventh-inning stretch.

Schreiner plated two runs in the bottom half, taking advantage of four walks and a Trinity error to break up the shutout.  The Mountaineers were plagued by five errors in the game, leading to six unearned runs.

Santos led the Tiger offensive efforts with three RBI and two runs scored, while Austin Singer also drove in a pair of runs.  Drew Butler and Colin Serkowski both scored twice in the game, while Liam Rihela and Parker Cormack came off the bench and cracked two hits each.

Trinity is back in action on Tuesday night, hosting Our Lady of the Lake University in an inter-city matchup at 7:00 p.m.  The Tigers open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next weekend, hosting Centenary College in a three-game series.
